On my recent visit to the
Montage Resort in Laguna Beach I was charmed by the collection of
California Plein Air paintings. Like their European and American impressionist predecessors, they brilliantly manipulated natural light to capture the mood and landscape of the majestic
Pacific Coastline. Their works soon became the impetus for the
California Arts and Crafts movement and shaped an array of artistic mediums including painting, sculpture and architecture. This delightful period speaks of the natural beauty of California.
