Dorothy Rogers A Design Icon

Long before Martha Stewart, Dorothy Rogers (wife of Broadway legend, Richard Rogers) set the trail of "lifestyle decorating" and made America aware of what to do with home entertainment, decorating and gardening. At the helm of her own firm, Repairs, Inc., she launched a successful career as an interior designer. Her book My Favorite Things (a treasured book in my library and as you can see well used) was filled with ideas, recipes and a style of life that was inspirational. I celebrate her marvelous vision.

Orchids Bring Interest to Any Room

Orchids bring a very special interest to any room. In a corner, front of a mirror or in an entrance. The varieties just seem to be getting better and better and colors change as the combinations of species are developed. As a designer I find they can perk up a room either in mass or just a simple little plant. Easy to care for: water once a week (soak) and just light, not sun and they should last at least three months. When was the last time you purchased a blooming plant that would last that long?

LaCienega Design Event

What a day for the Design Industry. Hundreds of America's top design luminaries from all over the US turned out to support La Cienega Design Quarter special events here in Los Angeles. It was so much fun seeing friends and meeting new designers.

Tribute to Mark Hampton

What a beautiful tribute to Design Icon Mark Hampton by his wife Duane. She has compiled a book about Mark and his design excellence now available. This is a treasure. I had the opportunity to interview Mark for my HGTV show, "The Best of American Design" and what a delightful guy he was! A true gentleman. Years later I saw him at the New York Antiques show and he was just the same delightful man. His artwork was so clever as he would create Birthday cards for friends and family. Once while visiting Hubert de Givenchy in his home in the Loire valley I saw an original piece of his art in one of the rooms. His talents were spread in many corners of the world. He is an inspiration to us all.
Thanks Duane for sharing his designs and your personal remembrances with us all. These photos were taken in Duane and Mark's apartment in New York City. Photos by the New York Social Diary.

Sunbrella Red Will Not Fade!

What a breakthrough; a deep, rich red that will not fade and easily cleaned. These Sunbrella patterns, Dots Nice/Terra cotta and Sunset Stripe/Terra cotta are part of my new collection. I like the punch of red & white. Incidentally there are 1,200 silver nail heads on my Stanton Screen for Miles Talbott. The pendant light is also covered in Sunbrella Flower Power/Parchment from the JR Collection for Craftmade Lighting.

Joe Ruggiero New Introductions!

Our new Conrad chair (foreground) with a driftwood finish sets the scene for the Tribeca Slope arm sofa. Both are covered in a new color for Sunbrella Trax called Fawn. Looks like a "cafe latte" and piped in Trax/Vellum. The cocktail table is our Lloyd for Gat Creek in a rich distressed Oak. The art? From my collection for W.King Ambler. Lot's of excitement at the Miles Talbott showroom in High Point as we introduce many new products.

Sunbrella Fabrics Introduced in San Francisco

What is it about San Francisco that makes me so creatively inspired, every time I visit this incredible place and I am a regular visitor. This time I had the pleasure of hosting a lunch for a group of marvelous designers and retailers off the gardens at the Ritz Carlton. What a pleasure to present my new introductions for Sunbrella and Miles Talbott and hear their comments and input.

Just a a few of those present in no particular order: Top photo Beryn Hammil, Scot Meacham Wood, Hiroko Kadoya.

Good Morning

This is what I am seeing as I start my day in my Los Angeles office. Just a few flowers to brighten the room although it looks cloudy outside. The daffodil on the wall is a first run of my new art collection for W.King Ambler. Have a great day!

Ruggiero To Introduce New Art!

My new art will be introduced this Spring at the Furniture Market, produced by W.King Ambler. It is in the works and I have time to change the framing. These are costume sketches I did while in Venice. I would like to ask your opinion. Should I use a gold or silver frame? I would love to get your input.
Thank You.
